I was 14 years old in 1972 living in southwest Michigan, back in the days before remote control. In effect I-was-the-remote, with dad telling me to switch the channel to,.. whatever channel the Lions were playing on. Dad worked hard every week so by Sunday he was exhausted. Dad usually fell asleep in the chair which left me in complete control of which game,"I", was going to watch. As a young man I Loved watching the running backs so I would switch channels often to watch them. Dad would wake up and be upset about it and finally told me, You have to pick a team and then stick with it, I will give you one week to give me an answer to which team you will be following. At weeks end I had no idea which team it would be so, when dad asked me, "OK, which team is it going to be"? I quickly thought, my high school colors are orange and blue, and I said, "I am going to be a Bears Fan." This was three years prior to drafting, the great Walter Payton. My Dad's response was, "well you are not watching it in my house"! I have been a displaced fan ever since and, for 40 years now, I have had to scrounge to watch My Bears Games. I am now 54 years old and I live in Huntsville, Alabama. I am still displaced, I am still scrounging to watch the games, and I am still a Bears Fan. I will die a Bears Fan.
